Follow Travel Goat through Lower East Side places that hosted art in unofficial, temporary, or spontaneous ways. The featured spots exemplify the spirit of interactivity that has defined the New York art world since it took preeminence after World War 2.

About Face asks “What is an exhibition?”. Now, through James Tunick’s “Free Speech Bulletin” pedestrians can text their responses or ask any other question from their phones. Responses are displayed on the exhibition window, just like a real-time discussion and community bulletin board.

paperJam wants you to construct an urban representation of the community’s printed history- A cityscape simulacrum, built from boxes constructed origami-style out of newspapers – recycled objects containing the stories and news of the About Face’s surrounding community.
Dropspots
Start at 215 East Houston at Ludlow St, Wed-Sun 2pm-7pm
A dropspot is a kind of alternative mailbox hidden in a public space, where people can leave things for exchange. Here the public becomes curator in Ed Purver’s “Dropspots”. Find a Drop Spot in your neighborhood, visit the Drop Spots map
